Corfu is a Greek island in the Ionian Sea.
It is the second largest of the Ionian Islands and including its small satellite islands, forms the edge of the northwestern frontier of Greece.
The island is part of the Corfu regional unit, and is administered as a single municipality. The municipality includes the island Corfu and the smaller islands Ereikoussa, Mathraki and Othonoi.
The island is bound with the history of Greece from the beginning of Greek mythology. Read more about Corfu here.
Resorts
Kassiopi
Kassiopi is a village and a resort on the affluent north east coast of Corfu. Historically, a small traditional fishing village, the town itself has been developed and offers a great range of services for any visitor. From small apartments to luxury villas, bars, restaurants, scuba diving school, horse riding and a lot more, it remains a summer social centre visited by tourists, particularly popular with visitors from Britain and Italy. Avlaki Beach
Avlaki Corfu is a relatively little known beach located between Agios Stefanos to the south and the bigger and more popular holiday resort of Kassiopi to the west. It is a long and beautiful beach crescent of pebble with a few apartments at the western end and a couple of beach tavernas. Avlaki is a beach for those who enjoy a quiet location and good swimming. There are sunbeds and a boardwalk over the stones. There are also showers, toilets and changing facilities. Read more here.
San Stefanos
A pretty fishing village, located between Kalami and Kassiopi, that has managed to retain its traditional look and laidback feel . The small resort of Agios Stefanos is renowned as one of the most attractive on the more upmarket north east coast of Corfu. Agios Stefanos has its own small beach and there are wooden jetties that you can sunbathe or fish from, and you can hire a boat here to explore the nearby coves and bays. There are wonderful views across to the mainland and Albania. A secluded bay, lined with yachts, dingys and whitewashed buildings. A small pebble beach and thriving seafront tavernas. Read more here.
Kerasia
The long 300m sweep of shingle at Kerasia is in a beautiful spot and ideal for those wishing to escape the crowds. Surrounded by olive and pine the beach is flat and water shallow, though it dips sharply after a few metres. There is a single beach taverna and a small shop on the beach but not much else, although sunbeds are available to hire and there is plenty of parking. Prince Charles apparently is an irregular visitor as the Rothschilds have an estate nearby.
Kouloura
Kouloura is a small fishing village with a harbour, where many of the locals and visitors moor their boats. The view of the harbour is probably one of the most painted in the area. The main house is owned by the Agnelli family as their holiday home. Kouloura is an excellent example of a small traditional Greek bay that has not been adversely affected by tourism.
